Here's where I hope someone smarter than me can post the rest of the story.
Seriously, though, I can't figure out how skills are handled mechanically in the game. What I mean is, when a character needs to use a skill, what do we do? Is it a percentile roll? Are they linked to traits? I know most of the skills have descriptions listed, but unless I'm missing something (probably), I can't figure out what to do!
For example, here's the description for Barter:
Barter
In the new era, fixed prices are rarely displayed on merchandise,
and a wide value range exists for nearly everything, even
the lives of fellow humans as in the case of slaves. While
everybody can barter, they usually never walk away from a
purchase feeling that they got the best deal possible, or even
a fair price for whatever they bought or sold. A character with
this skill was probably an apprentice to a merchant, working
in some sort of warehouse or shop where it was her job to
buy or sell on a large scale at a rapid pace. She would have
been sensitive to the other person’s facial expressions, body
language and voice changes to determine if the other could
sell lower or buy higher. As an adventurer with this skill, this
character buys cheaper and sells items at a higher rate.
When rolling on a non-fixed price or fee, this character gets
two rolls at an article’s value and can pick the lower or higher
value, whichever benefits her. She can buy on behalf of all her
companions as well, making her a popular teammate. This is
a one-point skill, and if it is allotted or rolled again, re-roll for
another random skill.
So what exactly am I supposed to be rolling? Do skills use the HC table? I really don't get it. I must be missing something.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!!
