Wednesday the 23rd of October was the first time I got to launch The Mutant Epoch with a group of players. A little bit of pressure, 7 players showed up and we randomly generated PCs in stages which took about 1 hour before launching into an encounter to test the games various rules.
The majority of my players have experience with DnD so the dice system took a little bit of learning, not surprising. What did surprise me was how seriously they took the totally brutal nature of the game to heart. Something about the setting really sparked their attention to detail in a manner I don't typically see in other settings.
I have to point towards the Hazard Check system as being a strong influence factor, it was much easier for the players to understand the peril of a situation when it was relative to a percentage of failure. Coupled with no easy Endurance return and now my normally meek players are suddenly cut throat nihilists that have already determined to sell the PC who rolled slave to a meat market for quick change.
They also quickly understood that having a gun is better than using a gun, the sound attracts attention, which is always bad. I was amused by their abundant caution and honestly can't wait to confirm all of their suspicions.
Great game, great product, can't wait to unleash more horrors!
