A lightning snail is a nocturnal snail about the size of a house cat. They have bright blue shells and mustard yellow bodies, and feed on plant and fungus matter. They are generally slow-moving but can crawl surprisingly quickly under duress. They can climb on almost any surface and hold fast, including upside down on ceilings.
Perks & Quirks:
Lightning snails, like normal snails, generate a thick slime. If a snail is attacked with a melee weapon or by hand, the attacker must make a Heave skill check to disengage (+20 bonus).
A lightning snail can also produce a powerful electric shock as a defense mechanism. On contact, the shock does 1d100+10 damage (on initial attack). This is not a steady electric field but a decisive shock attack.. This attack can be generated every turn, but each attack drains the snail's electrocyte charge. A second attack does half damage, a third attack does ΒΌ damage, etc.
Electricity damage may also be dealt through a conductive medium such as metal. Likewise, metal armor provides no protection against shock damage. The electricity-producing organ requires several hours to recharge back to full. Aggravated damage from electric shock may result in a heart attack if a successful Endure check is not made.
Lightning snails, though vegetarian, are territorial and extremely defensive, making them quite dangerous. They retain their charge even after death, up to 24 hours.
USES: With a successful Survival or Science skill check, a lightning snail can be used as a power source. One lightning snail, properly prepared with a Survival skill check, can provide a full meal to a human. Snail slime can also be used as an strong adhesive.
