Cost for production and time required compared to sale price will also give a good base for manufactured goods. Check out Junk Crafter in TME Core Rules and available trade items pg 94 (I think..)
For my game, I believe we used 100sp +50/starting Caste skill point at Rank 1.
The well educated man servant started with 200sp before skills and our farmer started at 50sp.
You may want to add their starting equipment as it's likely stolen.
I wanted this to be looming over the PC's heads, but not totally out of reach.
After seeing the Slave Value Table in Crossroads pg 386, my estimates were a little high. Just another way to go through the PC's money. They eventually paid all their dues. I did increased the value once their reputation got around.
