How much do your PC have to drink to quench their thirst?
As GM I can easily handle hunger by considering a PC satisfied if he/she eats one day ration.
But how do you do with thirst?

TME pg 122 gives some guide lines on this but doesn't say exactly how much water you need. As you know, temperature, exertion and stress play a role. If you're just going with rations per day, you might just go with an average water ration/day. I don't want to count calories or milliliters. If they only eat dry rations with little water intake, they might need a salve.. Might not be realistic, but it's easy. If they only get 2, I don't worry about it too much. If they find a water source, well, stream, toilet, it negates penalties. |

I didn't think about rations being dry food! I think I'll go with 0,5 L / day minimum. My campaign is mostly in desert areas.

That is generous, but I understand not wanting to track every little detail. TME is a reprieve from those kind of games, for us. Heck, the Survival skill would be 4-5 skills in our last game system. The players like the fact that the rules in TME aren't as important as the roleplaying. |

Thats a good point Providence the rules are not as important as the roleplaying in TME i couldnt agree more. {to Maxstone} I also have my group drink a half liter a day. It makes sense and realistically you can only carry so much water with you into the wastes unless you have a wagon, cart, or vehicle.

The group have killed the raiders in MOD and seized a water tanker truck. Holds about 4,000 gallons (15kltrs) and is half full. They don't quite understand it's value yet, but might when they reach Pitford. |

Wow They are rich! If they can get to Pitford that is! Its hard to hide a tanker truck like that and more raiders are going to come after them to get back the tanker because of its value to be sure. One does not simply kill some raiders and take a tanker truck full of water and get away with it in the epoch scott free. If i was GM i'd have another group of raiders go after them only this time they have a LAW or have set IED's along the road. If the raiders can't get the water back then no one would have it.

under the description for dehydration it states : the humanoid victim suffers a loss of 2 points from both STR and END until one trait reaches zero and the victim collapses .and is unable to do much more than crawl at one meter per round , untill the other trait also reaches zero and unconsciousness commences.
how often do they take ability damage? per hour/ per day?

under the description for dehydration it states : the humanoid victim suffers a loss of 2 points from both STR and END until one trait reaches zero and the victim collapses .and is unable to do much more than crawl at one meter per round , until the other trait also reaches zero and unconsciousness commences. how often do they take ability damage? per hour/ per day? Hey, mechslayer, thanks for pointing that out. If it's /hour then the avg person with 25 STR and END could last 24 + 12.5 hrs = 35.5 hrs before passing out. After that, "a person lives 1/2 hr/WIL" (pg 122). With an avg WIL of 25, you get another 12.5 hrs = 37 hrs. This is a bit shy of what I learned from Nutrition classes in college, but not by much. ~3 days is what I remember, but everyone is different and some could last 5 days or a wee bit longer (anecdotal). If one or two of those stats are a bit higher than avg, the numbers work out; mostly. If it's /day, then the avg person could go 25 days before unconsciousness plus 12.5 days.. and that is definitely not supported by research. As always, GM's might want to HR it to fit their view of the campaign world. If it were only 1 point from STR and END/hr "starting on the second day" (pg 122), then you'd get at least 48 hrs w/o water for the avg person before collapse and only being able to crawl. In fitting with the theme of the rules in the book, having a progressively harder HC to remain active could give each person a lucky individuality. Furthermore, in a situation of fight or flight, "wrestle the canteen away from someone or die", I'd consider adrenaline giving you back maybe 1/2 your lost stats for that combat, only. All of this assumes an average exertion in an average climate. Hot, dry air will cause damage sooner. My numbers also don't factor in water from moist foods which would slow down the rate of dehydration. Just my take on it.  |

Nice old school reminder. Darksun.. TSR kept Vrusk from Star Frontiers and just changed their body type a bit. Overall a very interesting setting. Thanks. Oh, another point to be made for TME: An additional head would give 2x oxygen and lower your heart rate (you wouldn't get winded easily), but exhalation with 2 heads would mean 2x moisture lost through respiration. As the brain uses about 1/4 of our daily intake of calories, 2 heads would mean you also get malnourished that much faster. Your game may vary.  |

Cool! There are some gems, buried around here and there.
An errata list sounds like a good idea.
I like a progressively harder HC. Even if failed, you can try for another the next day, but it would be more difficult.
