PANTHARS
This race of bipedal black panthers emerged from the jungles to the far south of the great steppes. It is rumored that some clandetined old world corp had a secret jungle base located there conducting genetic research into making beastial jungle animals. This new race of beastial is cunning, smart, lightening fast, and stealthy. They have built a few village like centers for themselves in the jungles of the south similar to those of natives found today in the amazon jungle or the jungles of papua new guinea. They are primative in the sense that they dont know how ancient relic tech works but are able to learn quickly with a compitent teacher. Treat Panthars encountered in the wild the same as savage humans with the following beastial bonuses.
END +10 STR +10 AG +18 ACC +20 INT +14 PER +5 WILL+3 APP +8
MOVE: 9m
Panthars have an excellent sense of smell and get a natural +1 to perception checks. Panthars also have night vision treat as the mutation. The naturally attack with claw claw bite doing 1d8/1d8/10+5. They are quick on their feet and can move 9m in a single round also they are adept jumpers and can jump 4m straight up into a tree, 3m from a stand still in any direction and can run and jump forward 5m. They use their run and jump skill to get surprise attacks on creatures and people from stealthy hiding spotsecieving a +15 SV when successful. They like to use spears and long bows more then there natural attacks and will employ these weapons before resorting to using their natural weapons. Panthars are excellent natural swimmers and always start the game as such.
DISADVANTAGES Panthars are naturally nocturnal and recieve negatives when operating during the day, -12 SV and +10 DV. Panthars also eat three times the normal human pure stock every day making living outside of the jungle very expensive. Panthars that constantly operate during the day for a period of six months or more, (determine using a d8) can train there themselves to adpet at operating during the day instead of the night reducing the penalties to -4 SV and +2 DV when operating during the daylight.
NOCTURNAL ADVANTAGES Panthars get a natural +10SV and -10DV while operationg at night.

rexbannon, I always appreciate the amount of work you put into campaigns. Your players are lucky to have such a dedicated GM. With that said, I have some questions for you. Why didn't you go with the cougar bestial humans? I think, cougars, panthers, mountain lions are all nearly identical, genetically. We just call the big cats with more melanin "black panthers", although Florida Panthers aren't usually black. Although you didn't say Panthars have to be black.. I just inferred it from the nighttime DV bonus. I hate to get hung up on Appearance, but mutants having the Furred (pg 66) gene have -d3 Appearance and bestial human cougars have 8+d20. Definitely 'could' be considered cute. I'm not saying that they aren't graceful/beautiful, but not everyone may agree to dating Panthars, if book stats are based on human norm. Again, I'm not knocking your ideas. This is your story, your game! I'd sit at your table any day. I just like to talk about how other people do things. Getting another GM's perspective makes my own game better (by stealing your ideas).

As always i appreciate your input providence13 and you make a valid point, why not use the cougar beastial stats? The anwser is that when doing my research on big cats i found that on wikipedia it stated that there are no authenticated cases of truly melanistic cougars. I wanted this race to be seperate because they are so rare in the wild that it would take special genetic research to create them in the labs of 2364. Thus i could give them more benifits and disadvantages based on their uniqueness in the feline species. BTW please use anything i post here for your homebrew games. Thats why i post this stuff. its in my head and i need to get it down somewhere or else ill forget this most of this stuff and im sure it will be useful to somebody out there. I just want to contribute to the mutant epoch community because this game is awesome. thanks for your feedback.

One thing I would like to see more of is herbivores. Otherwise we wind up with predators everywhere in the world, with only human(oids) to feed on.
The other detail is where are the new races coming from? To avoid inbreeding they need a sufficiently large starting population so that means a town somewhere. The other option is they are being produced by a lab somewhere, released (and delivered by robot), and observed to see how they do in the wild.
Of course that facility will need its own maintenance system, power source (nuclear, geothermal, solar, etc), likely be run-down/malfunctioning, and have its own ecology around it that uses any wastes from the base (toxic, radioactive, etc). You could simply have critters that can survive toxic environments much better, but aren't that much of a threat to the PCs.

A full fledged race need not be an animal race. I can make races from nearly anything, I have a pretty vivid imagination. I like the idea about the ecology around the facility you referred to, that's a great idea. I honestly would make some herbivore races if you would like? give me a list of some herbivores you would like to see as playable races and ill see what I can come up with in my spare time.
