I was wondering how you all handle character creation. Having read the rule book and rolled up a fair amount of characters (mostly to help debug my Excel sheet) I've done most of the different methods (except point buy). As I finish debugging the sheet and get ready to run some of the One Day Digs solo with a party to hammer down the rules, I'm thinking that the shuffle and 9 rolls in combination seem to work the best (tried the heroic proportions but that just made the clones, bioreplicas, and transhumans unbalanced). I'm wondering what other folks use/find best.
As for the characters themselves; having rolled up a few dozen now (had one party of 7 that were all slaves of some sort and no gladiators, and a different party of mainly military clone, battle bioreplica, and transhuman mercs and elites) my test run party is going to be more hand picked, role-play (as opposed to roll-play) party; final party to be determined at this point but I'm thinking at least a thief, a trader, a technician, 2-3 "military folk", and the rest commoner types; races TBD.
I've also looked over the comments on the board here, and are going to try and run with the revised rank table, as I generated a few simulated adventures with loot (again to get a feel and stress test the character sheets) and found that, to my understanding, a single relic could easily generate 2 ranks worth of EF on it's own. (Doing a list of EF with loot for the 6 one day digs, and using average dice values for loot, I generated a total of ~4000 EF.
There's a couple of other rules/rulings I plan on using as well; namely max skill points per level, looser restrictions on using skill points, giving MO, WE, and FA extra (if lower) rolls on the weapons and armor tables.
Two things I found lacking, and I think would be good to have, was 1) an extended item and services list (okay, maybe I've just played too many games and taken it for granted) and 2) maybe some indications of what it costs to feed various animals (I mean, how much does a great horse eat a day).
I know I have more stuff to say about the rule book, but a lot of it is more layout, spelling, errata, etc.
-edit- Oh, I forgot about my weapons question. Do stuff like bows and crossbows (and relic pistols and rifles) come with an appropriate ammo-container? Quiver/quarrel case, leather holster, rifle sheath, and/or ammo belt? Or do these things need to be bought with starting funds?
Mahalo.
