Re: Beyond Red Crater for The Mutant Epoch just released! by shrekgrinch » Mon Jan 28, 2013 9:55 pm Excellent. I am about halfway through it now. Love the art, love the slaughter. Love the drama. So, I guess the Californian Federal Republic is a definite part of the ME background. This is the second adventure where I've seen it referred to. When theCrossroads Region comes out, will we learn more about the CFR and the 'sky people' or will that be a separate supplement in the future?

Has anyone had a chance to run or play BEYOND RED CRATER yet? My copy just came in and I wanted to hear some feedback.

My group completed it triumphantly. Its a good module but one things for sure, be teady as a gm for space adventures! At the end the PCs have the option to go into space . But there is nothing built for it. I have civered this subject pretty extensively and posted a lot of my own personal space back story on the forum as an exampleof how it could be down. This is how its set up in my campaign but feel free to use any of it as you see fit. Luckly the players choose not to journey into space but if they do some day i have most of it ready for them. MUTANTS IN SPACE!!!!!!!!!!

All of this can be found under rules question, beyond red crater? One thing i noticed about all the modules is that some how they all have or mention a usable space craft in them. One can make to logical jump that only high ranking PCs should have or operate these space craft and also it points to the fact that end game for any campaign accrues in space. Once PCs have taken a space station and aligned some orbital nuclear satellites no one on the planet can appose them.

Rex, your post about space puts me in mind of a game template for TME... how about if all the characters are newly awakened space travelers who think they are on a different planet but come to learn it's Earth thousands and thousands of years after they left it, a la Planet of the Apes? It wouldn't take much work, other than come up with the pre-game Caste of "Astronaut" or something similar. Apes with rifles would be the LAST of their worries, on the Earth of TME!
"Git yer tentacles off'f me, ya damn dirty mutant Ape!"

That is a great idea for a TME adventure module Tim! The ship could have been on a deep space mission and the astronauts could have the ship on auto pilot for the return trip. The ship could be set to communicate with earth based computer systems to auto pilot it down from space to a designated landing pad but the problem is there is no computer system to guide them in. The ship could crash or emergency land itself in the wasteland/forbidden zone lol! Then the characters could emerge from cryosleep to an earth in chaos. it would be a great game.

To continue with this theme, just change Epsilon Eridani to Sol/Terra... www.wattpad.com/80180-alastair-reynolds-chasm-city-revelation-space-2This is the first page I read in the store and made me buy the book. I definitely recommend Chasm City and near anything by Alastair Reynolds. Having a pleasant computer voice reading this to me while waking up from cryosleep would be down right unsettling .

In a war situation, certain protocols would probably isolate most extra terrestrial inhabitations. The change of "viruses" encrypted in messages and sending a message that shouts "Hey, I'm here for anyone who wants to destroy me!" would probably silence space completely. Androids and robots are not safe for receiving messages because one word in 100,000 may be reprogramming it.
Much like "The Big Hush" fell across Earth, space chatter is even more dangerous. A life boat planning on returning when things are better releases how "juicy" it would be if it was discovered.
The Crossroads area is currently home to perhaps 5 million people.
In the Mutant Epoch, it has about 100,000 "people" who are barely living above the "Dark Ages" and still could suffer catastrophic collapse or World War 5 or 6 (whatever its up to and another).
To that is space, Earth is dangerous. What is in space is even more so.
I like the idea of one of the "possible ends" being aliens, even if these aliens started from Earth "V Ger" style.
One interesting thoughts is that Earth has "refined goods" (even if they are buried under a ton of rubble), those in space may need to make a quick "resource strike". Scientific missions would be possible too. These may produce "little green men" because it is very unlikely that humans would risk exposure to what in habits the planet currently. They may go even so far as to destroy all but the vitals that are coming back. If it is information, they may not even send a craft capable of return.
