say your character is in combat and armed with an assault rifle which has a firing rate of 3 / round. there are a bunch of ways to handle this but what are your ideas? do you roll an attack for each action, or lump them all in to one attack? Or do all the combatants take turns rolling attacks untill all have depleted their rate, where you roll for initiative and repeat the exchange of gunfire. any ideas you have i would like to hear them

I make an attack for each ROF. This shows the power of a weapon able to spit out that much lead as well as the value of such a weapon making it a much sought after and prized possession. Of course this makes it a target of raiders, bandits and thieves.
Having combatants take turns firing by ROF negates the importance of initiative imo. If a raider with a ROF 3 gun wins initiative versus 3 PCs he would get one ROF shot off then be on the receiving end of 3 shots as they return fire before he gets his second ROF shot.
I believe that when the bullets start flying in any rpg game the players and enemies must hit the deck, dive for cover or take defensive positions. Seeing a foe with a high ROF weapon should inspire fear and you better eliminate that threat as a top priority. I let my players know that using such a weapon could have draw backs so it's a choice they need to make. If they make the choice to use such a weapon I want them to reap it's benefits and let the ROF be the reward.
