Books for Ideas
by CF » Sat Jul 23, 2011 5:44 pm
I have a lot of these books for my Kindle.
Any Death lands by Axler
Wastelands Anthology
Any Afterblight Chronicles
Way of the Wolf and other Vampire Earth books By E. E. Knight. The vampires in the books are not supernaturals type.
Land Of Ash Anthology. From what stories I have read, it is about the aftermath of the explosion if the Super Volcano.
Reading the GW novel Red Sails in the Fallout at the moment, and it is a Hoot of a read. Sooner Dead is also good.

I am slowly reading through the James Axler Deathland series and have them all on one shelf in a neat row. My Wife is always on the look out for the few I have missed.
I am still haunted by both the book and movie of The Road.
On Netflix we are watching Jeremiah, which is low budget, and very near future. The survivors are all children who grew up after a plague which killed everybody over 13. Luke Perry seems to play the main character: First episode on youtube:

If you want some ideas for a backwards Pure Human city try- City of Ember- book or movie. It’s a kids book/movie- but still some good ideas. An underground city where they are running short of supplies and they have never seen a tree or the sun. (and don’t really know what they are!)

I have seen the movie for The Road, but have not read the book. The movie was depressing enough for me...

The book is just as depressing if not worse....

The books that hooked me on the PA genre were "Anthem" by Ayn Rand, and "The Last Man" by Mary Shelley. Great reads, but be advised that "Anthem" is a very short read, but totally worth it. I'm ex-US Army, and can also advise anyone interested in technical or TOE-related stuff to check out the freely available Army Manuals and Field Manuals. There's a treasure trove of great info to be had from them.

I agree, I found them both to be very depressing.

Will I had a ton of the Deathland books a few years ago, sold them off when money was tight, now I'm kicking myself for parting with them. To me the first books in the series were the best, the later ones to me just got kinda repetitive.
And I agree about The Road...very haunting and depressing. My wife and I still discuss the ending and trying to interpret it.

Take the All-Mart free for the Kindle.
It is a tongue and cheek PA novel

I just finished World War Z by Max Brooks. It was strange to read a book without a main character, but there were some excellent, frantic scenes in that book and very post apocalyptic elements to it.
Now I am reading American Sniper by Navy Seal Chris Kyle. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_ ... er&x=0&y=0 I've always loved anything to do with snipers and would like to create an adventure that has the characters serve as a sniper team in some operation, possibly serving a deserving faction.
The movie Enemy at the Gates, which is one of my favorites, is a good example. Now that I think of it, the people living and fighting in Stalingrad must have felt like they were living in a post-apocalyptic world. They had no idea the war would every end.

Yes, I agree. Saw the movie and I like it a lot. Might be a little too light-hearted for TME, though.
But as you say: it's a good mine for ideas.
